Painting transforms the timeline into a surface, music into a sequence. In this exhibition, visual and acoustic perception patterns are brought together. The project starts with a dialogue between four different painting positions which will be opened towards music and performance. Musicians and performers will develop their "pieces" on location in free improvisation. The process of musical interaction is the musical work itself, which remains open and unpredictable until the end. There is a similarity to the painterly process of the artists exhibiting here. However, painting is a clearly silent testimony of a supposedly completed process in the studio. For all involved the moment plays a special role. Here arise the possibility to start a communication between the different media.

Sound Portraits #22: Meredith Monk
http://spektrumberlin.de/events/detail/sound-portraits-22-meredith-monk.html

Doors: 19:30
Start time: 20:00
Limited seats: please come on time

Sound Portraits is a series of listening sessions, curated by Doron Sadja, focusing on the work of iconic composers who have paved the way for contemporary electronic music. After a short introduction of each artist´s life and work, we will listen to a selection of excerpts and complete works from the artist’s repertoire. Besides providing an opportunity to introduce these seminal artists to a new audience, the Sound Portraits series also offers an open forum to engage in group listening in a quiet atmosphere. Today´s Sound Portraits will be hosted by Døreen Øøi

This session: Meredith Monk

Read more about the series at http://sound-portraits.tumblr.com/

Composer and singer Meredith Monk’s work has always defied categorization. Throughout a professional career that began in 1964, she has not only experimented in a wide variety of fields – embracing film, installation and site-specific work as well as music and dance – but also frequently blazed new trails. She has, in particular, been a pioneer in what is now called interdisciplinary performance and extended vocal technique, earning her plaudits as “a magician of the voice”. Her work, in terms of compositional process and performance is a fusion of ancient and futuristic. In a time where we are constantly surrounded by weapons of mass distraction, Monk’s work offers a refuge: it has the ability to transport both performer and audience to another universe.

Giovanni Verga-Recycled Sounds
A narrative piece based on live manipulation of sound collection from recent works and field recordings.

METROSCAN
Metroscan is a futuristic audiovisual work dealing with the subject of the megapolis, its informational speed, multipolarity and other post-urbanist vectors.
The title Metroscan and the idea behind it are based on the multifaceted origin of the word“metro” (In Ancient Greek metron stands for measure). It is connected to metropolis, concepts of measuring, movement and transportation. “All of those concepts are “scanned” into highly concentrated sounds and visuals - a certain compressed informational avalanche of a large city, which through the means of digital technologies is melted into a purified, fluctuating aesthetic experience”
The sound of this piece is using a very broad scale of frequencies and often balances between experimental and pulsating. Line and point are principal basic elements, reflected in both the sound and the visuals. The latter are based on the conversion of the data of current sound into an image that is restored in realtime. It is characteristic of very fast change of elements, lush images and unpredictability.
This project, named by creators as work in progress, was performed live more than 20 times in various countries of Europe, America and Asia.

Pierre-Luc Vaillancourt - Ruins Rider
Ruins Rider: Filmed in the lost territories of the Balkans, RUINS RIDER portrays the secret ruins that triggered trances over the past centuries. Using an array of hypnotic pulsating flickers, filmmaker Pierre-Luc Vaillancourt conceived an explosive kinetic experience. Accompanied by a powerful soundtrack by Marc Hurtado of the cult project Étant Donnés, RUINS RIDER is a visceral experience of hypnagogic archeology and raw energy.

All things come to an end! Capitalism has reached its final phase, the internet is being repurposed as an algorithmic surveillance machine. IT millionaires are engaged in preparations for the time after the end of civilisation. This music-theatre takes place in a fictive bunker, which is inhabited by a bird-like creature. A choir sings „last words“, light sources become musical instruments, thunderous and severe sounds are rattling the bunker. The end is near.

Tickets: 15€/10€

THE END.

Sowieso has to stop !

Very unfortunately this will be the last evening of Sowieso to excist.

The financial situation is extremely desperate;
GEMA sends me bills of 800 Euros a month. I have the feeling they do not like that uncommercial music gets popular!
Also INNITATIVE MUSIK wants me to pay back more than 10.000 Euro of the price-money Sowieso got some years ago of having the best musicprogram. This has to do with paying rental defficits, that occured during the year that the U-8 was not functioning between Hermannplatz and Hermannstraße.!

I guess you can imagine that this shitty situation produces a lot of stress, wich has a very bad influence on my personal health.

Thats why , with tears in my heart, I have to give up. FUCK......
